HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
- Should a child become ill or suffer a minor injury during the day,
they are made comfortable in our infirmary area and the parents are
contacted immediately. An illness is assumed if the child has a fever
in excess of 100 degrees or other outward symptoms of illness. It is
requested that parents notify the school whenever a child has been exposed
to a contagious disease. All parents are notified if a communicable
disease or condition (i.e. chicken pox) is present in the school. Students
must be free from fever for 24 hours before returning to school. A certificate
of good health may be required before re-entrance by a child after a
lengthy or serious communicable disease or illness. Parents are responsible
for informing the school regarding any booster vaccinations the child
may receive.
- Cambridge Academy staff members receive First Aid and CPR training
on an annual basis. If a child receives a minor bump or abrasion injury,
staff members apply first aid techniques and notify parents at pick-up
time through an accident/injury report. If an injury is anything other
than minor, first aid is applied and the parents are notified by telephone
immediately. An accident/injury report will also be filed. If the Director
or Supervising Staff in Charge feels that an emergency situation exists,
Emergency Medical Services will be contacted as well as the parents.

MEDICATIONS
- Prescription and non-prescription medications are administered according
to the written instructions of the parents, at the direction of their
child’s physician. Records are maintained listing the child’s
name, type of medication, dosage and time to be given. Medication is
stored in a secure location, refrigerated if necessary and administered
by a designated staff member. New instructions are required each Monday
for medication that must be continued from the previous week. All medications
must be in their prescription bottle or original container printed with
the child’s name and expiration date.

CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE
- Classroom discipline consists of redirection and positive reinforcement
methods. Conferences are scheduled with parents if a recurring behavior
is exhibited, to find an appropriate plan for the child involving both
the teacher and parents. Cambridge Academy endorses the Discipline
and Guidance Policy (Get
Adobe Reader), created by the Texas
Department of Family and Protective Services, and will adhere
to its requirements. Upon enrolling your child, it is mandatory that
you read this document and sign that you have received a copy.

MEALS PROVIDED
- Two snacks per day and a nutritious hot lunch are provided for all
students. Weekly lunch menus are available on Friday for the following
week. A cold breakfast is available from 6:30 AM until 7:30 AM. Your
child may bring a sack lunch if they prefer something other than the
school lunch that day. Children who have a particular dietary requirement,
food allergy, or condition that would prevent their eating the school
meal will need to bring additional food from home to supplement our
menu. Parents must provide formula and baby food for the infant who
has not graduated to table food. Cambridge Academy is not responsible
for the nutritional value of the snack or lunch that a parent provides
for his or her own child. Cambridge is also not responsible for meeting
the child’s daily food needs for meals or snacks brought from
home.
- The State of Texas Guidelines now prohibit parents from providing
food items to children other than their own child, unless it is from
a commercial source with an ingredients list displayed on the package.

REST TIME
- All classes, except the school-age children, have a scheduled rest
time. Children may bring a favorite small blanket, pillow or stuffed
toy for rest time. These items may be stored at school or taken home
each day. Blankets and pillows must be taken home at least once per
week to be washed.

PARENT PARTICIPATION
- Cambridge Academy has an open door policy. You are welcome at any
time to visit your child’s class. We encourage you to participate
in field trips, lunch times, class parties, parent presentations and
special events. Due to Texas regulations, no food may be brought from
home to share with classmates unless it is from a commercial source
with a listing of the ingredients.
- The Director and supervisory staff of Cambridge are always available
to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Your input is invaluable
in helping make Cambridge Academy the premier facility for infant, early
childhood and after-school care.
- A copy of the Minimum
Standard Rules for Child-Care Centers (Get
Adobe Reader), published by the Texas
Department of Family and Protective Services,
is available at the front desk for your information. You may also
contact your local TDFPS office at 972-633-6600, the hot line to report
child abuse at 1-800-252-5400, or their web site at www.dfps.state.tx.us
for additional information.

CONFERENCES AND EVALUATIONS
- Your child’s teacher will be happy to let you know how your
child’s day has progressed. Daily reports are prepared for the
toddler and two year old classes. If you would like more detailed information,
your child’s teacher is available for a scheduled conference.
The kindergarten classes have a progress report covering a twelve (12)
week reporting period.

| FIELD TRIPS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
- Field trips, guest speakers, and visiting educational groups are
part of your child’s day at Cambridge Academy. These activities
are an important element of the student’s understanding of the
world around them. Field trips away from the school building are limited
to pre-kindergarten children and older. All vans are equipped with shoulder
seat belts, first aid kits and fire extinguishers. The attendance is
taken upon entering and leaving a school van as well as periodically
throughout the activity. Parental permission for transportation on a
school van must be given prior to the event. We encourage parents to
accompany us on these fun and educational trips.
- School-aged children will be transported to and from their public
school according to the schedules of their respective school districts.
Cambridge Academy takes the attendance upon entering and leaving a school
van to insure the presence of all children. If a child will be absent
for pick up by the Cambridge van, it is required that the parents notify
us at least one hour prior to pick-up time. A $5.00 charge may be assessed
after the second pick-up non-notification. If a child is not located
at their public school, their parents will be advised immediately.

WHEN LEAVING CAMBRIDGE ACADEMY
- Upon leaving Cambridge Academy, two (2) weeks notice must be given.
Tuition for the final weeks is pro-rated on a daily basis if proper
notice is given. Twenty (20) days attendance are considered a full month.
